Buñuelos, Dessert Fritters

Ingredients :
For the topping:
• 3 tbsp white sugar
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the dough:
• 1 1/2 cup white wheat flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 3 tbsp white sugar
• 1/4 cup vegetable oil/butter
• 1 large egg
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1/2 cup maseca(Masa Marina)
For frying:
• App. 1 cup vegetable oil
Yield: 20 Buñuelos
DIRECTIONS:
1. For the topping, combine sugar & cinnamon in a shallow dish.
2. Sift together the flour and baking powder.
3. In a separate bowl, cream the sugar and oil/butter until smooth.
4. Add the egg, milk & maseca
5. Gradually add the flour, mixing well after each addition, until a dough forms.
6. Roll the dough into meatball sized sphere's, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. You can leave them round, or flatten them into cakes.
7. Heat vegetable oil in a medium-sized saucepan until hot. Fry dough balls or cakes until golden brown about 5 or 6minutes turning to brown all over.
8. Remove balls to the paper towel covered plate to drain.
9. Using tongs, place each buñuelo onto the plate with the sugar and cinnamon mixture & shake until well coated, turning the piece over if necessary.
10. Serve buñuelos warm with hot chocolate.
